Portraits

I am fascinated by people and the way their faces are all so different. Talking with someone I’ve met for the first time, I realise that you can understand a little more about them by studying their face. It’s even better if you make a drawing or painting.

On this page, I have included a variety of drawings and paintings I’ve made over the years in several different media. I love to draw with charcoal, it’s so light and can create such a sensitive line. Painting is usually my way of adding another dimension to a drawing. I usually start with a thin layer of watered down acrylic and build up from there.

The models featured in these works are friends and family and also professional models who pose for a much longer time and are usually brilliant at staying still long enough to capture a decent likeness.
