A sense of place, an identity similar to a likeness in portraiture is the first thing I am aiming for in my landscapes. The quality of the light and the climate conveys so much. I want the viewer to be transported into the painting. It also influences the palette I choose, softer, more subtle shades in the north becoming stronger and more vibrant in the south.
Bonnard, Dufy and William Gillies are some of my landscape heros.
